Andy Jones has given over 400 formal and informal talks and presentations at a variety of venues. Titles of his recent talks include “It’s All About the Caption: Understanding and Encouraging Students’ Use of Social Media to Create Multi-Modal Compositions,” “The Importance of Radio to Poetry and Literacy,” “Loki in the Nursery: An Unlikely Path to Tranquility” at TEDx Davis, “Graduate Teaching Goals and Activities: Considering Synthesis” at the Nara Institute of Science and Technology in Japan, “The Path to Craft” at the San Francisco Writers Conference, “Creativity, New Media, and the Future of Writing” at the Capitol City Young Writers Conference, and “Interactivity and Performance: The Unexpected Keys to Successful Classroom Presentations” at the Annual Meeting of the University of California, Office of the President, President’s Postdoctoral Fellowship Program in Oakland, California.
In addition to hosting his own radio show every week since the year 2000, Andy has spoken about writing, technology, and the arts on radio stations KDRT, KDVS, KXPR, and KQED. In addition to appearing on Davis Community Television, Andy has been featured on televised news programs on KOVR, KCRA, KVIE, KTXL Fox 40, and KXTV in Sacramento, KCBS in San Francisco, KABC in Los Angeles, WUSA in Washington DC, and the Oprah Winfrey Show. In 2014, Dr. Andy was featured in a long segment celebrating Amiri Baraka on The World Service on the BBC. In recent years Dr. Andy has spoken on Sacramento television station KOVR (CBS) about texting and the changing English language, at a book group in Roseville about the book and film Wonder Boys, at the annual meeting of the New American Media Education Beat Fellowship Program about instructional technology, about Jack Kerouac at the annual Jazz Beat Festival, about instructional technology on KQED radio, and at TEDx Davis on the lessons to be learned from raising a son with Autism.
Dr. Andy is available to speak on a wide variety of topics, including writing, social media, emerging media, poetry, performance, leadership, contemporary business literature, parenting, public broadcasting, instructional technology, learning management systems, books and authors, and creativity. In recent years, he has also organized and hosted fundraisers, having raised over $10,000 for the Smith-Lemli-Opitz Foundation, and officiated weddings.
