Instructional Technology Enthusiast and Administrator

Dr. Andy is the Associate Academic Director of Academic Technology Services at UC Davis. In that capacity, he oversees the Faculty Support Team, he edits The Wheel: The Instruction Technology Blog of UC Davis, he coordinates the monthly meetings of the DOLCE (Discussing Online Learning and Collaborative Education) Program and the Faculty Forums Program, and he consults with UC Davis faculty to determine ways that he and members of his team can best help faculty inspire students to meet their learning goals. Beginning in 2013, Dr. Andy chaired the UC Davis Learning Management System Working Group, charged with investigating potential replacements for Sakai, the engine that had run the previous UC Davis Learning Management System, SmartSite. Canvas was chosen as the replacement for SmartSite, and it is now used in most classes at UC Davis, where Dr. Andy has taught since 1990.

Today Andy coordinates and hosts the yearly Summer Institute on Teaching and Technology. Find details at The Wheel.

Previous to his administrative work for Academic Technology Services, Dr. Andy coordinated the Faculty Mentoring Faculty Program for the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, and helped to coordinate the quarterly More Thoughtful Teaching symposia (with the help of Drs. Leslie Madsen-Brooks and Mikaela Huntzinger). From 1997 to 2004, Dr. Andy also coordinated the Computer-Aided Instruction Program of the University Writing Program and the Department of English.

Andy is lucky to work with the following members of the ATS team: Mark Wilson, Instructional Designer; Margaret Merrill, Instructional Designer; Steve Faith, Lead Instructional Technologist; Fernando Socorro, Instructional Technologist; and Joey Van Buskirk, Instructional Technologist. Bert Craig and Todd Van Zandt are their managers.
